Department Welcomes Dr. Greg Parnell as Visiting Professor

Dr. Gregory S. Parnell has joined the faculty this fall teaching Systems Engineering and Management
and also Decision Models.

Photo of Greg ParnellParnell is a retired Professor of Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he taught systems engineering, decision analysis, and operations research courses. He was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy in academic year 2011-2012. He has also taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Air Force Institute of Technology.

Dr. Parnell's research focuses on decision analysis, risk analysis, and resource allocation for defense, intelligence, homeland security, and environmental applications. He has received over $1.9 M in research funding. He co-edited Decision Making for Systems Engineering and Management, Wiley Series in Systems Engineering, 2nd Ed, Wiley & Sons Inc., 2011; co-wrote the Wiley&Sons’ Handbook of Decision Analysis, 2013; and has over 100 publications. He served as chair of a National Research Council (NRC) study on bioterrorism risk analysis and as a member of two other NRC study committees. He is a participant in the Technology Directorate and Compliance Panels of the National Security Agency Advisory Board.

Dr. Parnell has served as President of the Decision Analysis Society of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) and the Military Operations Research Society (MORS). He is a former Editor of the Military Operations Research Journal.

He is a Fellow of INFORMS, MORS, the International Committee on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), the Society for Decision Professionals, and the Lean Systems Society. He is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Parnell received his Ph.D. from Stanford University.
