Dr. Russell D. Meller Named IIE Fellow

Meller, Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas, has recently been named an Institute of Industrial Engineering (IIE) Fellow. The prestigious honor is given to individuals for professional leadership and outstanding contributions to industrial engineering. The award is typically considered a lifetime achievement award. At age 42, Dr. Meller is among only a handful of Fellows to be elected before age 50.

IIE Fellow John English, Dean of Engineering at Kansas State University initiated the nomination. He cited Dr. Meller's outstanding career accomplishments and service to the profession saying, "There is no better professional in our field of Industrial Engineering."

The nomination was followed by multiple letters of support. Among the contributors was Prof. Mark Daskin of Northwestern University . He is quoted as saying, "I would rate him (Professor Meller) among the top three people in the world in this (facility layout modeling and analysis) field."

Dr. Meller is the James M. and Marie G. Hefley Professor of Logistics and Entrepreneurship and also director of the Center for Engineering Logistics and Distribution.
